Quit a job
Went back to the job I quit
Stayed with my father through his final month of life
Started a major renovation project in my house (that is still ongoing), including design, making drawings, getting permits, selecting contractors, purchasing materials, selecting and purchasing fixtures, and budget oversight.

Travelled
Worked on 5 round-robin quilts and finished my own
Sewed 30 costumes in a month

I'm now working on my list for next year.

Sorting my fabric stash

  • Dec. 13th, 2009 at 8:25 PM
for the past two days and it's not because I'm being lazy, it's because there is so much of it! I'm attempting to get it all to fit within the storage shelves and reclaim my cutting surface.

I have to start making quilts, and use some of this stuff up. I also should have done this before the holiday guild party, because I've got two bags of UFOs and stash fabrics that I just don't want. At least the fabrics were part of an estate sale lot of fabric/craft materials - I didn't choose them at a store and then decide these are "not me"

Of course, now I'm finding a ton of fabric that would be perfect to make those soldier Xmas stockings - and the deadline was 10/31... Do I give these away or save for next year?

The embarrassing bit is finding fabric that I've purchased multiple times, because I liked it and didn't remember that I already bought it. Gah. At least I can pretend that some of the orientals were because they came in a FQ collection.

There will be photos when I'm done. I've sorted everything out into colors and stored the quilt backing fabrics, muslins, black, black & qwhite, white-on-white, solid color fabrics, creams/tans/browns, yellows and oranges, reds, pinks (yes there is enough pink for its own category), orientals, rainbow fabrics (yes *they* have their own category, too!), animal-themed and novelty prints. I still have to do the blues (the biggest collection of all, Ithink). purples, greens, and mulit-colored fabrics (less than rainbow, but more than one color so I can't decide if a fabric is blue or purple or green or red - a lot of multicolored batiks and hand-dyes are in this category).

This time I'm not sorting by size of the piece of fabric, but by color, so I've got yardage mixed in with FQs. I think it will help with fabric selection when I'm in design mode, and going through the stash reminds me what I have, and keeps me from ordering more fabric online or going to the store.
